DOMAINE
DE
LEYRE-LOUP

Fine Beaujolais wines

BETWEEN TERROIR AND EXCELLENCE

The Domaine de Leyre-Loup was founded in 1993 by Jacques and Christophe Lanson. This is where this father an his  son best put in practice their passion for wine: commitment to terroir, respect an preservation of nature, and art of winemaking, which is demanding and requires know-how, work, dedication and humility.

Today, the domain encompasses about 10 hectares of vines, where granitic soils are perfectly suited to the Gamay grape variety: terroirs are hard, demanding and poor, yielding in wines of rare richness and quality. The vineyard, that includes 7 hectares of Morgon and 3 hectares of Fleurie, stands on renowned “lieux-dits”: Corcelette, Bellevue and les Côtes in Morgon, Poncié and les Combes in Fleurie.

It is in the heart of the Morgon appellation, on the "lieu-dit" Bellevue, where terroir, grape variety and reach for perfection unite for the best, that an outstanding white wine, Les Granits de Bellevue, is elaborated .

The Domaine de Leyre-Loup bears a Terra Vitis certification for its sustainable agricultural practices

and a High Environmental Value certification for its global environmental approach.

Introduction

LES GRANITS DE BELLEVUE

Viognier on granites

Fleur pour viognier Vdef.jpg

THE IDEAL TERROIR

FOR AN OUSTANDING WINE

To dare and to reach

Bellevue: a terroir of granites both demanding and complex; viognier, the grape variety that is a perfect match with these soils to produce concentrated grapes with low yields.

We dared this happy alliance to elaborate an extraordinary wine by all criterias.

Vinified and grown partly in vats to preserve freshness and acidity, and partly in demi-muids to extract roundness and suavity, Les Granits de Bellevue are the true reflection of our vision of a great and complete white wine.

THE MAKING OF FLEURIE AND MORGON WINES

At the Domaine de Leyre-Loup, careful attention is paid to every stage of the winemaking process.

Every gesture is done by the book, thoroughly and carefully, to make the best out of wines.

HARVESTING

Grape harvesting is done by hand in small boxes, to keep grapes intact.

We settle the date of the harvest to the day, for each parcel, to make sure grapes are reaped at the best possible maturity.

GRAPE SELECTION

AND DESTEMMING

We believe that the quality of the wines is primarily reflecting the quality of the grapes.

That is why each single grape is sorted by hand on a vibrating table.

In order to enable a long vinification that favours wine complexity and structure, some of the harvest may also be destemmed.

WINEMAKING

We are simultaneously doing an alcoholic fermentation of destemmed berries, typical of red wines, and a carbonic maceration of grapes still on stalks, that makes Beaujolais vinification unique.

This is how we get the finesse and the fruitiness of the Gamay which are so typical.

WINE GROWING & WINES

"Domaine" wines aim at precision and  sheer expression of fruit.

That is why Domaine wines are grown in stainless steel vats.

"Reserve" wines age 12 to 18 months in old oak barrels in our Chai.

Micro-oxygenation concentrates aromas and give Reserve wines their silky touch.

Wines then age further in bottles for some years

to reach their aromatic maturity and an harmonious tannin structure.

ENVIRONMENT

We believe that nature is fragile, and therefore promote responsible agricultural practices that protect its equilibrium. We use mechanical soil tillage to reduce the use of chemical products and to favour biodiversity. We continuously maintain vines and tracks to prevent erosion. We use rainwater rather than the town’s water supply. The domain is carbon-positive thanks to its solar panel equipment.
